Occupant Classification (OC™)

OC™ monitors a car seat for occupancy by means of a pressure sensitive matrix sensor in the seat. Pattern recognition and anthropometric parameters classify the occupant and inform the airbag control unit if the seat is vacant, occupied by a child seat, a child or an adult, so that the airbag can be deployed accordingly. OC™ complies with the FMVSS 208 regulation on advanced airbags issued by the U.S. National Highway & Traffic Administration (NHTSA).
