Automotive Safety Sensing

Child seat Presence and Orientation Detection (CPOD)

CPOD identifies a child seat mounted on the passenger seat and determines its orientation. The system consists of resonators and antennas that establish communication between the child seat and the vehicle. When a child seat is detected, the sensor transmits this information to the airbag control unit to disable airbag deployment, preventing injury to infants and children.

IEE is currently evaluating a potential new product, the Unattended Child Reminder, which is based on CPOD technology. This solution reminds drivers exiting a vehicle that a there is still a child in the car. In addition to its alert function, the technology also has the potential to provide additional information for an Automatic Emergency Call or e-call.
